Enable and disable domain in smartermail
To disable or re-enable a domain, select the desired domain and click Edit in the content pane toolbar. The domain settings will open in a popup window and the option to disable or enable the domain will be in the Options tab.
But in the case of re-enabling a domain, you need to re-name the domain name (example.com.disabled to example.com) .
Rename a Domain
Applies to SmarterMail 15.x
Follow these steps to rename a SmarterMail domain:- Log into SmarterMail as the System Administrator.
- Click the Domains icon.
- Select the desired domain in the navigation pane and click Edit in the content pane toolbar. The domain settings will load in a new window.
- In the window's toolbar, click Rename.
- In the New Domain Name field, enter the new domain name and click OK. (Clicking OK will confirm and process the name change.)
- Adjust any other desired domain settings.
- Click Save.

Follow these steps to rename a SmarterMail domain:
NOTE: These instructions include modifications to XML files within a SmarterTools product. Modifications to XML files can result in performance issues, functionality problems, data loss, and could cause this product to fail. Such modifications should only be made by IT professionals aware of these risks and after industry-standard backups have been successfully completed and restore procedures are in place. Modified XML files may not be supported by SmarterTools.
- Stop the SmarterMail service in the Services control panel on the server where SmarterMail is installed.
- Navigate to the domain folders. By default, these are stored at C:\SmarterMail\Domains.
- Locate and rename the domain folder to the new domain name.
- Open the domainList.xml file in Notepad. By default, this file is stored at C:\Program Files(x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service\domainList.xml. NOTE: Before making any changes, it is recommended to backup the file.
- Locate the current domain name in the file and rename it. Be sure to modify all uses of the domain name.
- Save the file in the same location.
- Restart the SmarterMail service.
- Verify that the new name is now displayed in the domains list.
